TESTING YOUR BLOOD CAN BE QUICK AND SMALL
ReplyDeleteAt mashables technology, Zachary Sniderman8 posted on December2. Nanotechnology is being used to test blood quickly and accurately for different viruses. This testing unit is made out of glass or plastic wafers and uses the molecular characteristics of the virus to determine its identity. One lab is in London and is run by Professor Tom Duke. Another lab is in Berkeley, California. Their chip is called the Simbas chip and is very sensitive in separating the different constituents of blood. The cost is very expensive now but it should come down in the future. Finally the real advantage of this process is it only uses one drop of blood and is very fast.
Fire in the Sky: iPhone Ignites on Australian Flight
ReplyDeleteRecently on a Regional Express flight to Sydney Australia, smoke was coming out of iPhone4 and later on followed by a red glow. Standard safety procedures were made and no one was injured. Until now Apple has not commented on this story.
As for this time it wasn't the first for Apple Explosions. In 2009, Liverpool, England a father claimed that his daughter's iPod touch exploded. He was offered a new one on one condition; he has to sign a confidentiality agreement. Other than that iPhone3G burnt a hole through a car seat. In some cases it’s been found that other technologies were fault. As a 2010 situation, where iPhone4 caught on fire and burned the his hand, it turned out that in this case a faulty USB port was to blame.
Mobile device’s batteries cause most of the reasons; sometimes people are to busy focusing on other advances, little is concentrated on battery technology. But still it is said that Apple product's explosions are a lot much fewer once compared with other brands.

ReplyDelete“Review: A laptop bag that can charge gadgets”
Content:
While I search on an internet finding for IT news for an assignment, I found one assisted item to help us geek. And I considered it, an technology news also.
This laptop bag was reviewed and it's quite interesting in my opinion. It's not the normal laptop bag but it's the place for battery charging for many devices, for example; iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Androids, etc.
This bag has the battery at the bottom. It has to be charged once a week to retain the power for refill other devices' batteries.
The reviewer praised about the long lasting battery in this laptop bag that can completely charged others batteries, two devices at a time.
The things about this bag that have to be concerned rather than the safety is that if you used this bag that means you will have one more battery to be charged after you charge your usual devices.
The users have to be certain that they feel comfortable holding a heavy bag, with battery at the bottom, and charging one more battery at a time before you go out doing things.

Title: “Survey: 90 percent of moms are Facebook friends with their children”
ReplyDeleteContent: Flacy (2011) mentioned about the study from the The Parenting Group of Parenting and Babytalk magazines that 90 percents of moms make friendship with their children on Facebook. The group made a survey on over 1,100 mothers about using Facebook together with their children and they found out that half of the interviewers changed the security settings on their profile so that their children could not be able to see the pictures or status that are not appropriate for them to see. According to Facebook’s internal rules and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, children under 13 are not allowed to create their own profiles on the social network. However, the group discovered that one third of mothers let their children create their profile on social network. The group studied that 30 percent of mothers allow their children to use social network only after they finish their homework while half of mothers limit their children to use Facebook for only one hour daily. Some moms created a new profile by pretending as if they were someone else so that they can see and check their children’s profile pages. Overall 77 out of a hundred mothers became friends with their child and their child’s friends on Facebook. The study also researched about the use of smartphone and found out that 4 out of 11 applications that mother downloaded on their phone are meant for their child to use and play games.

Title: U.S. Tech Employment Nears Its All-time High
ReplyDeleteContent: In the US, tech workers job opportunities have noticeably increased. Today’s report stated that according to collected data by the TechServe Alliance, the government has offered 7,100 IT jobs last month. Employing 4.068 million people makes a big drop of unemployment to 8.6 percent. At the same time, payrolls went up to 120,000 workers. From some wage data collecting group like Yoh Services said that the wages have increased to 6.85 percent. The company mentioned that the recent wage scale of tech workers is now $31.85. Countrywise, the demand of IT workers who are working high technology industries have increased, but the IT workers in food manufacturing firm, for example, may not be count as IT workers.

“SSDs are now in need”
ReplyDeleteIt must be one of the worst flooding which has ever happened in Thailand, where the manufacturing factory is located which is over 70 percentage of Hard Disk Drives were produced. It causes lacking of the said products and then another Drive which is called “Solid State Drive” or “SSD”, it is smaller in size, plus easily in using and carrying, now has rapidly been increasing in demand of the people. The reason why people are now more using “SSDs” is not only being small in size but also stable and capable in keeping all data so as the Hard Disk Drive. Instead of using Hard Disk Drive now it is turned into “SSD”

Banking Sector Gets More Comfortable With Cloud
ReplyDeleteThe cloud computing banking service is continuously increasing. A large hybrid cloud has being built by CTO of ING Tony Kerrison which will support the financial industry cloud sectors. In the project of ING, stated in American Banker website, there is a large hybrid cloud combining the features of public clouds and private data center. The hybrid or shared IT infrastructure will achieve the variable costs and expandability by addressing the security and require performances of the banks remains in their internal clouds. The expectation for increasing the INGs applications run on the cloud is to increase multi-fold of 5% in the coming years. More than 2,000 VMs (Virtual Machines) can be operated at any one time in the new platform.

Reflections: As I feel that the cloud computing service is the interesting one, I researched on that topic. I came to realize that the internet storage application “drop box” is one of the cloud computing services. I knew that application long time ago and I just didn’t know how it works.
A survey finds that most people go online “for no specific reason.”
ReplyDeleteAccording to the new study of Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, nowadays that many of Americans are using online just to waste and spend their time more than they were. The study also found that about 53% of people ages 18 to 29 go online without any particular reason but for an alteration or just for amusing. About 81% of people in this demographic expressed that they have done this at least intermittently.
The study had accompanied through landlines and mobiles to among 2,269 adults ages 18, it has a sideline of error of 3.7%.
Most people use the internet when they feel depressed, said by not only young web users but also about 58% of all adults or 74% of online adults. They have been using the internet this way. Over 45% of adults did the same thing, according to a Pew survey conducted in 2006. The Pew survey found that the increased of people using the internet consider as a “purpose of fun” differ from the rise of broadband connections, social networking and video. Therefore the trend has recommended that the web is becoming a challenger to other kinds of other leisure activities.
Lead author Lee Rainie said to Mashable,”finding these things as one of our main signs about how seriously internet use has interlaced itself into the beats of people’s lives.”
More findings..., while people are in the bad mood, many of them are seeking the internet as a pleasurable, diverting place just to spend their time-out. No surprising to see that this becomes a favorite pastime of young adults. But it is surprising to see that the incidence of this use has increased in every age demographic which mean that the internet is not just a playground for youths.
Unfortunately, the study didn’t mentioned specifically how they are wasting their time online for fun.

Glowing bacteria could power ‘bio-light’
ReplyDeleteThe bio-light idea produces a glowing green light wherein the hand-blown glass bottles being used are filled with the so called bacteria. And this will produce green light after putting the methane glass.
This invention seems interesting but many arguments will exist although, as what others say that this could help and lead to the natural way of lighting.
It was also said that the designer of this idea will produce light like as what we see in the living organisms such as fireflies and glow worms. We can see how they fly and produce light at night. The concept according to the designer is similar to these, but the bioluminescence is produced through chemical response.
According to Philips, if this invention will materialize then, it will help us to conserve the use of energy and somehow will be benefited to everyone.

Reflection:
This innovation was the result of an advanced education that the people had been through but in every discovery that we want to explore to bring out, we should always consider the benefits for many rather than for self satisfaction and achievement. And As I read through the article, this initiative seems interesting and somehow a success in bringing the natural way of lighting towards energy conservation.

CAN INFORMATION SYSTEMS PREVENT A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS?
ReplyDeleteNowadays, If watching television, reading a newspaper, or surfing internet, a large scale of life loss from biological or chemical attacks or an avian influenza pandemic. Computer models estimate that between 2 and 100 million people could die in the event of a flu pandemic, depending on the characteristics of the virus.
On May 3,2006, the United States government issued and Implementation plan for Pandemic Influenza. The plan calls for improving mechanisms for real time clinical surveillance in acute care settings such as hospital emergency rooms, intensive care units. Such initiative is the BioSense Real-Time Clinical Connections Program developed by the U.S. Federal Centers. BioSense sits atop a hospital's existing information systems, continually gathering and analyzing their data in real time. The data include patient age, sex, zip code of residence, Zip code of the medical facility handling the patient, the principal medical complaint, symptoms, onset of illness, diagnoses, medical procedures and laboratory results.
The system summarizes and presents analytical results by source, day, and syndrome for each zip code, state and metropolitan area using maps, graphs and tables. Registered state and local public health agencies are allowed to access data. They access BioSense via a Web-based application over a secure data network.
BioSense fist operated in 2004, Defense Department and Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital and Laboratory Corporation of America orders for medical tests. In 2005, BioSense network to civilian hospitals in major metropolitan areas. However, many hospitals have not been anxious to jump on the bandwagon because of the transition and time consuming. To transmit data to BioSense, each hospital must standardize its patient and other medical data.
Some in the medical community question whether the BioSense network is worth the effort. "If there is a pandemic flu, we are not going to know about it form a system like this," says Dr.Susan Fernyak, director of communicable disease control and prevention at the San Fransisco Department of Public Health.
As a conclusion, side of paramedical are not much recommended about BioSense program because of its program is related to government agencies. So it is not much privacy about patient's bio data. Government can encroach easily this system. But it is a very good program for a flu pandamic. It has much benefit for patient such as you have a chance to cure your diseases in real time and to get advice of doctor. But as a patient, to choose this program, you are voluntary to participate to BioSense.

Digital face-swapping heading for low-budget film-making
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen the film The Social Network? If you have seen it, you might have wondered about the identical Winllevoss twins, whether they were a real-life pair of twins cast for the roles or it was magic. This wonderful kind of system has created by computer scientist Kevin Dale at Harvard University. This system is called a digital face transplant system. It works with a single camera, simple lighting, and a regular desktop computer, that could be used by amateur and low budget film makers.
The process begins with footage of a supplying “source” actor, and a receiving “target” actor – both of which can be taking. The software proceeds to create 3D models of both of their face. And then, suddenly it changes the pose and speech of the target actor to match those of the source. Based on a frame by frame, the outline of the transplanted face is mixed with the skin of the receiving actor and the software chooses a location on both faces, both for cutting out the one and covering over the other, where the boundary between the two will be the least noticeable. In addition, it could also blend different parts of the same actor’s face, shot in different takes of the same scene.

European distrust of US data security
ReplyDeleteAccording to recent survey, about 70% of Europeans are worried about the data security they use in online. The worse are two companies: they are much concerned with safety service from reach of US Patriot Act. The Datas of US based cloud service Europeans use is being controlled by US law enforcement agencies.
The effort of EU and US for protection of user mistrust seems failed. EU and US approve of the principle of data safety but US organization can overcome these principles. The lawers likeTheo Bosboom of Dirkzager also think that the US companies have responsibilities for have access the government to keep EU datas so it would be better for Europeans in Europe and he said Safe Harbor has a little value more. EU now is planning to publish a new data protection: they estimate it will be appeared in 2012. However, the EU marketing is still in great opportunity to operate the market of online.

Talking cell phone for blinds
ReplyDeleteCell phone has been a part of your our basic social need for over a decade but the classic model of a regular cellular phone were inaccessibly to people who are blind or have low vision. Over the years braille keypads have been used to assist the blind, but today with the option of voice command life for the visually impaired have become a lot easier. With the development phones like iPhone 4s which has the siri, it is like providing a seeing eye assistance to the blinds. In my opinion such technology of using voice commands should be incorporated in classrooms to assist in learning of the visually impaired.

iOS 5.1 spills beans on new iPhone, iPad and Apple TV
ReplyDeleteContent:
Apple has begun seeding out iOS 5.1 in beta form to developers, and with a plenty of juicy new hardware info hidden within the code, that could be coming our way in the smartphone, tablet and home TV areas.
Unlikely to iPhone ,3,4, on the iPhone front, the code names an iPhone 5,1 device. And whilst the 5 tag doesn't necessarily mean an Apple smartphone with a 5 in its official name (the iPhone 4 was identified as the 3,1, 3,2 and 3,3) the jump from the 4S' 4,1 identifier could well signify a major hardware refresh. Let's hope so.
On the Apple TV front it could be significant and mean a major update for Apple's hobby box - its current offerings were all codenamed with a name beginning with a K.
iOS 5.1 is available to developers now, so it will most likely be set loose for the fanboy masses within a couple of weeks.

Your Smartphone is spying on you
ReplyDeleteContent: Trevor Eckhart, an android developer found out that there was a hidden application in most Smartphone called Carrier IQ. He also showed a 17 minutes long video concerning the data which this app collects. Carrier IQ is not only able to tell where the users are or to follow their location but it also records their keystrokes. This application helps to gather data for product improvement or for a better service. However, most users do not know it’s existing in their phones and there is no signal pup up asking for permission from users to record information needed. After Eckhart revealed this secret, he received a letter from the company to keep quiet but according to the law, he has the right to report his discovery. Telephone tracking apps make people feel scared and feel uncomfortable thus the company should pay more attention on user’s privacy.

Reflection: It’s good to keep improving new technology or making a better service for customer. I agree that privacy issue should be more concern and the company should ask for a permission to collect data from its customers. Not only to follow the law but also to show respect others’ privacy.

ReplyDeleteGoogle + launches face recognition
Like Facebook's Tag application, Google+ has is soon launching its own version called the face recognition. On the surface both website's application looks similar but face recognition's suggestions does not go public until the taggee has approved of it unlike Facebook where tagged pictures are made public instantly. Also if the tagger does not interact with the tag gee often the tag with be questioned. Google+'s version of the software in my opinion better as it keeps in mind the privacy of the users.

4 Key Criteria to Build Your Dream Blog
ReplyDeleteBuilding blog is very exciting and very challenging. You can have a blog in a minute. However, you can’t have a great blog by putting a little effort and spending a little time on that task. There are so much to do and it is very much like building a garden.
You need to have the inspiring content and you have to work on your dreams come true. The recommended four key points to build the blog with less time and without wasted effort.
Firstly, you have to have a dream of building a blog.
Secondly, you need to have the SMART goals. You can’t have a general purpose on building a blog. Your goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-based (SMART).
Thirdly, after you have your dream and your goals, you need to work on this. To stop doing so many things without achieving, don’t try to do multi task. As Mr. Merrill said multi-tasking is just waste of time and effort. As you break your concentration on many tasks, it is hard to be done one thing well. So, the better way is having an action calendar.
Finally, you also need to take care of balancing your health, friends, family, and relationships even though your work is very important for you. It is also important to get away from your work and attention, to recharge and get the fresh ideas, thoughts and inspirations.
